Sunday 28th September
Before high tide there were 300 Golden Plover, 1 Grey Plover, and 1 Black-tailed Godwit at Bogside, and 2 Pintail, 3 Gadwall, 1 Ruff, and 14 Greenshank on the upper Garnock estuary. A Spotted Redshank was at Eglinton Park's Belvedere pond.
Scattered among Irvine Bay's five towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning, and Irvine are many interesting wildlife sites. There is a large estuary, extensive sand dunes, 12 miles of coastline, overgrown Brownfield land, scattered woodland, a string of freshwater wetlands, heath, carr, raised bog...lot's of interesting habitats to visit. A great deal of important habitat in the area has been lost in the recent past and the rate of habitat loss is increasing. Thought I might as well create a blog about the area's wildlife before it's all gone!
