Thursday 16th October
104 Mallard and a pair of Gadwall were on the upper estuary. A Brent Goose was at Bogside. A Short-eared Owl was up for a brief time at Bogside Racecourse.
Scattered among Irvine Bay's five towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning, and Irvine are many interesting wildlife sites. There is a large estuary, extensive sand dunes, 12 miles of coastline, overgrown Brownfield land, scattered woodland, a string of freshwater wetlands, heath, carr, raised bog...lot's of interesting habitats to visit. A great deal of important habitat in the area has been lost in the recent past and the rate of habitat loss is increasing. Thought I might as well create a blog about the area's wildlife before it's all gone!
