Thursday 4th September
A flock of 9 Snipe were flying down the River Irvine; 2 Black-tailed Godwits and 1 Bar-tailed Godwit were on the Garnock Estuary at Bogside; 4 Pintail and 10 Snipe were on the upper estuary. (Photo: 140+ Sandwich Terns at Irvine Bar)
Scattered among Irvine Bay's five towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning, and Irvine are many interesting wildlife sites. There is a large estuary, extensive sand dunes, 12 miles of coastline, overgrown Brownfield land, scattered woodland, a string of freshwater wetlands, heath, carr, raised bog...lot's of interesting habitats to visit. A great deal of important habitat in the area has been lost in the recent past and the rate of habitat loss is increasing. Thought I might as well create a blog about the area's wildlife before it's all gone!
